The Tucson Show

Tucson Show is a gem and mineral show that takes place annually in late January and February at multiple locations across the city of Tucson, Arizona. Most of the shows are open to the public, except for certain trade shows which require registration with a business license.

The key event of the Gem, Mineral & Fossil Showcase is the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show produced by the Tucson Gem and Mineral Society. This show has been held annually since 1955 and now occupies 181,000 square feet (16,800 m2) of the Tucson Convention Center. Many museums and universities, including the Smithsonian Institution and the Sorbonne, have displayed at the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show.

The first Tucson Gem and Mineral Show was held in an elementary school in 1955 and shortly thereafter moved to a Quonset hut at the Tucson Fair Grounds. In 1973, it moved into the Tucson Community Center, first occupying the North Exhibit Hall, then expanding into the Arena and upper Arena concourse. After the completion of the new facility in 1990, which is now called the Tucson Convention Center, the Tucson Gem and Mineral Show now occupies the Arena, Exhibition Halls A-B-C, Galleria and Ballrooms.

The Tucson Show, Jan. 27 – Feb. 11, 2018

Near the start of every year, Tucson becomes a playground for the world of international gem and mineral trading, collecting, and treasure hunting when the Tucson Gem, Mineral & Fossil Showcase arrives. Shoppers from near and far come to hunt for jewelry, jewelry-making supplies, collectibles and treasures, both rare and bargain priced. Navigate Tucson’s largest event with this useful information for visitors, retail dealers, and show owners.

It’s More Than One Show

The Tucson show actually includes more than 40 different shows at dozens of locations around town, from exhibit halls to hotels and sprawling camps of roadside exhibit tents. The mix is slightly different every year, and most shows are open to the public with free admission.

The Tucson Show packs the downtown Tucson Convention Center over the final weekend of mineral madness, pulling in thousands of treasure-hunters from around the globe. Free seminars and a Junior Education Area with hands-on activities make this show a big draw for families! Read how the Tucson Gem & Mineral Society started this show in 1955 and other gem show history here.

Not Just For Pros

While this event brings serious collectors from around the world, it’s the “cool” factor that makes it one of the biggest and best events of its kind. Thousands of people from all walks of life come to gawk at gold, oooh over opals, and dig dinosaur fossils. Find answers to frequently asked questions here.
